A waterproof plank is only one part of the floor
A plank marketed as waterproof does not fix a leaking appliance or a damp subfloor. The installer still needs to check the base and follow the product moisture requirements.
Rigid planks need the flatness required by their manufacturer. High spots and dips can stress locking joints, creating movement or gaps after the room is furnished.
Compare the construction, not just the color
Ask about the wear layer, core, installation method and warranty limits. Thickness alone does not tell you whether two products will perform the same way in your home.
Some products have attached padding. An extra cushion can interfere with the joints, so additional underlay should only be used when the manufacturer permits it.
Doorways, long runs and fixed cabinets need a layout plan. Floating floors must be able to move as designed; the installation instructions govern gaps and transitions.
Know what your installation price includes
Include removal, disposal, floor preparation and trim when comparing quotes. A low installation rate can leave out the very work that protects the finished floor.
Mention stairs, heavy furniture and rooms that must stay usable. Those details help a contractor plan the job and explain where the schedule may need flexibility.
Can vinyl plank hide an uneven floor?
Rigid vinyl is not a substitute for subfloor preparation. Ask for the base to be measured against the chosen product requirements before installation is priced.
